14 Tips to Use Pinterest to Boost Your Blog Traffic
Here are 14 tips I outlined for you to use pinterest to boost your blog traffic –
1. Write a keyword Rich bio for your Pinterest business profile
Let’s start with pinterest profile setting. Login to your pinterest account. Go to profile setting.
There, you’ll see the “about you” section of your profile. “About you” is just not about you. It is about your readers.
Write this about section in such a way that should focus on your readers. How your readers can be benefited from you?
Keep in mind that “About you” section of your Pinterest business profile doesn’t contains more than 160 characters. So keep it short and simple. Here is a quick format to write your pinterest profile’s “About you” section:
“I share tips about (what you do) to help you learn/become (subject)“.
If it is not possible to describe the benefits of your readers within the character limits, you need to be tricky to write this. Include some related keywords so that your readers can understand what they’ll get from you.
2. Include “call to action” in your pinterest profile bio
If you have any freebie to giveaway to your readers you should include that here in “about you” section of your pinterest profile. It’ll engage your readers with your profile. It’ll also help you to increase blog subscriber.
I include a free blog planner format in my pinterest profile bio as “call to action“.
3. Set profile image
Set a clear image as your profile picture. I’ll suggest to insert your own image instead of your blog logo as pinterest profile picture. Because, people trust human not company. People do business with human not with company.
4. Include keyword in your profile name
Try to include keyword in your profIle name. This way, if someone search on Pinterest or on Google using the keyword, there is a possibility that they’ll find you.
As my blog name already includes one of my keyword, so I didn’t need to include another one.
But there is nothing wrong to use your blog name as your pinterest profile name. If you want personal branding then you can include your name before your blog name.
To edit your pinterest profile name go to profile setting > profile name.
5. Optimize your blog post image for pinterest
When you use image in your blog post, optimize the image for pinterest.
How you can do that?
- Use high quality image.
- Use vertical image in your blog post. It is better to use 2:3 ratio for the image. Standard image size for pinterest Pinterest is 735 x 1102.
- Try to use light background for the image.
- Include your blog logo or blog URL in the image for blog branding.
- Fill up image Alt tag and image description properly when you upload image for the post.
6. Create at least 20 boards related to your blog topic
If someone lands on your profile and found it blank, they won’t be interested to engage with you or follow you.
So when you create your first pinterest business account, I’ll recommend to create at least 20 boards on your pinterest profile.
When you are creating pin boards, create relevant boards to your blog topic. Don’t create boards that are not relevant to your blog topic.
Your blog may have categories to organize your posts. You can name your pin boards as your blog categories.
7. Write keyword rich board description
Pinterest is called visual search engine. Unlike other social media, pinterest can be found in Google search result.
So write keyword rich description for your pinterest boards.
8. Add description to your pin
When you pin from your own blog, write a description for every pin. When you write description for your pins don’t forget to include keyword in the pin description.
You may also write description for the pin which you save from somewhere else. But it’s time-consuming. If you don’t have enough time, I’ll recommend to ignore this.
9. Pin every post from your blog
As soon as you publish a post on your blog, pin that post to your Pinterest business account.
How to do that?
At the time of creating pinterest business account, Pinterest suggested you to install a chrome extension to make your pining easy.
I think you already installed that.
Now visit the post you recently published on your blog. Hit on the chrome extension at the right top corner of your browser.
Now save it to your pin board. In that case, I’ll suggest to create a blog specific board in your pinterest account. Where you’ll save all of your blog post.
10. Repin your pin to related boards
You saved a pin for your recent blog post. Now visit your pinterest account and repin that pin to related boards. Because follower may follow one of your board. If you don’t repin to related boards your follower won’t get that pin.
11. Join group boards
In short, if a pin board has more than one contributor that is the group board.
In your pin board, No one can save pin except you. But in a group board, all the contributor have ability to save pin.
Group board is very useful way to grow blog traffic.
If you pin on your own board, only your followers will see it.
If you pin on a group board, the followers of that board as well the contributor of the board will see it.
A group board may have thousands of contributors. So it is a great opportunity for you and me to grow blog traffic. Thanks to Pinterest.
But how to find group board?
Sometimes you may come across a group board without hunt. But that is a rare case.
If you want to find group board yourself to join, there is a fantastic tool called PinGroupie.
12. Publish at least 30 pins
It is better to publish 30 to 90 pins in a day. At the beginning, if you are just starting your pining journey, you don’t have to publish that much (90 pins). Aim to publish 10 pins in a day and increase the amount of pins eventually.
13. Follow 20-80 rule when pining
For getting maximum benefit from pinterest, aim to pin 20% of your own content and 80% of other’s content.
So, if you plan to publish 30 pins in a day, aim to publish 6 pin from your own blog and 24 pin from others.
14. Automate your pins
Pining more is really time-consuming. On the other hand, pinning more is essential for increasing blog traffic.
So what’s the solution?
The solution is to use pinterest scheduler.
The most popular pinterest schedulers are
Board Booster (not free) and TailWind (free with condition).
