15 Practical Tips for Using Twitter Effectively to Promote Your Blog

If you're new on Twitter and can't figure out how to promote your blog on the platform, here are my tips for using Twitter effectively as a new blogger.

Being on social media is a part of blog promotion.

When you talk about blog promotion you can’t ignore Twitter. Because it is one of the most popular social media sites with 300 million active users.

I’ve talked about how to create a twitter profile for your blog before.

In this post, I’ll share how to use Twitter effectively to promote your blog.

15 Practical Tips for Using Twitter Effectively To Promote your blog

So here are my tips to promote your blog on Twitter.

1. Publish Your Blog Posts Automatically on Twitter

As soon as you publish a post on your blog it’ll be automatically published on your twitter profile.

Isn’t it nice to save your valuable time?

How to do that?

There are various ways to do that. One simple way is to use a WordPress plugin named Wp to twitter.

You can read more about setting and using the plugin here.

2. Tweet Others’ Posts

Always tweeting posts from your blog is not a good practice for blog promotion. It looks promotional and your follower may feel irritated. After all, Twitter is a social platform. So be social.

If you find any interesting things or image somewhere else related to your blog topic share those too on your twitter profile.

Tweet your favorite bloggers’ post if you think your follower will be benefited from that.

3. Tweet Your Old Post

It isn’t necessary to always tweet your new post. Your follower might have missed your old post. So give them another chance to read your old posts.

Frequently tweet your old post from your blog.

My strategy is to tweet a one-month-old post every day.

4. Ask Question

We all love to share our opinion on social media. So why not encourage your readers to share their opinion by asking questions related to your blogging niche.

So sometimes ask questions instead of simply sharing your post link.

It’ll help you to know more about your readers. What they want and how they want it.

5. Reply to Your Follower

Frequently reply to your follower. It’ll make them feel that you care for them.

My strategy is to reply to 10 followers every day.

Replying a tweet is easy. Just find out the tweet you want to reply to by scrolling through your twitter home feed.

When you’ll find one, click on the reply button. A tweet box will be opened. Type your message in the box and click on reply.

Keep in mind that reply is directed toward the user you are replying. If you want to add some other user in your reply do that by typing “@ followed by their twitter username.

6. Appreciate Your Follower

Identify the Twitter users who retweet your tweet or comment in your tweet or somehow engage with your tweet and appreciate them by giving thanks.

7. Retweet Frequently

Retweet your tweet frequently. My strategy is to retweet three tweet every day.

8. Listen What Others Are Saying

Search Twitter to know about what others are saying about your blog on twitter. You can do this by searching relevant keyword to your blog.

9. Follow New User Regularly

It is a part of growing your follower. You should follow new users regularly. Below are some tips to follow new user effectively.

  • Follow influencers in your niche
  • Follow quality brand
  • Don’t follow anyone randomly or automatically.
  • Scroll through the bio of influencers’ followers and follow them who seem relevant to you.
  • Follow those who often retweet your post.

10. Check Your Competitors’ Followers

Visit your competitors’ follower list and check their bio. If they seem related to you follow them.

11. Unfollow People at Regular Interval

Find out inactive users in your profile and unfollow them at regular interval.

My strategy is to do this once in a month.

You can use free tools like Untweeps to ManageFlitter to find inactive twitter followers.

12. Tweet Positively

Avoid negative tweets. Always share positive tweets. After all, negativity is bad, you know.

13. Use Hashtags in Tweet

Use hashtags before the relevant keyword in your tweet. But don’t use more than two hashtags in a tweet.

14. Use Image in Tweet

Tweet with an image gets more share than the tweet without an image. So when possible try to use an image in your tweet.

15. Set Goal

As you are using Twitter for getting traffic to your blog so you have to set a goal to increase your follower.

My Twitter goal is to increase my follower 5% every month.

Keep in mind that I’m not a Twitter pro-user. I just research online to set my twitter strategy for my blog. And I strictly follow these tips to promote my blog on Twitter.
