Importing Blogger to self-hosted WordPress

Follow the steps below:

Step 1: setup domain

You have already set up a domain when you bought hosting space. If you are using a custom domain on blogger blog and setup that domain during sign up for hosting account, that’s fine. You don’t need to do anything in this step.

But if you didn’t set up the domain, on which you want to transfer your blogger blog then you have to set up that domain first.

This is especially required if you want to host multiple domains under the same hosting account.

Different hosting providers have different options for hosting multiple blogs on the same hosting account. You’ll find that on their help page. Read that first. Generally, it requires the following specific tasks –

  • Adding domain
  • Selecting a folder for your website
  • Updating the domain’s DNS.

Step 2: Installing WordPress on your hosting account

Installing WordPress doesn’t need much effort. Most of the hosting service providers offer “One click WordPress installation” option. Just find the “One click WordPress installation” button and click on that. You are done.

Or you can read this tutorial to install WordPress on your hosting account by clicking on this link.

After choosing the file, hit the “Upload file and import” button as shown in the image below.

Now you have to make sure that you don’t lose any SEO benefits and any of your old traffic. For that, you need to do the following setting.

Step 5: Setup your post’s permalink

Permalink is nothing but the structure of post URLs.

For not losing SEO benefit, you need to set up your imported post’s permalink similar to your blogger blog post’s permalink.
