Have you ever wondered what your blog is going to be like in 5 or 10 years?
Can you visualize it?
When I thought deeply, I found that there can be three possible situations.
Situation 1: Your blog will be in the same situation where you are today. (The same).
Situation 2: Your blog will not be getting anywhere and you will want to start over again. (The worse).
Situation 3: You’ll have a well established blogging business. (The better).
Do nothing – no goals, no plan, no action – you’ll find yourself in the first two situations.
But if you want to find yourself in the third situation, you have to take actions, have a strategic plan and work constantly.
And working constantly on something requires a goal. Having a goal will force you to work constantly.
Nothing is achievable within a short period of time in life. If you want to achieve anything great, you have to have long term goals.
Like anything else in life, if you want to build a successful blogging business, you should set your long term blogging goals.
If you can properly set them, it’ll be easy for you to achieve long term goals.
But the problem is that setting long term goals isn’t easy. Having something after five years may be a little bit difficult to imagine at this moment. Because you may not imagine your blog after five years. You may not imagine how your blogging business will be performing at that time.
The good news is that there is an easy process for setting long term blogging goals.
So, in this post, I’ll show you how to set long term goals for your blog in a step by step process.
What Are Long Term Goals?
I think you know about what goals are. A goal is an object of your ambition or effort. Long term goals are objects that take time to accomplish. They can’t be accomplished quickly. Rather, they require careful planning and serious commitment to achieve.
In general, any goal that requires more than six months to accomplish is called long term goal.
But, I’m talking about those blogging goals which require one to five years or even more to accomplish.
So, when I say long term blogging goals, I mean those which require that time frame to attain.
Why Setting Long Term Blogging Goals Is Important?
I’ve read about many successful entrepreneurs and found that they all have one thing common. That is long term goals.
Many authors described those long term goals as end goals. And they say successful people start their journey with end goals in mind. In other word, if you want to be successful in anything you should have end goals. That is long term goals.
The blogging business is no different. If you want to build a successful blogging business you should have long term blogging goals.
I would like to clarify more that why having long term blogging goals is important.
It Helps To Create A Road-map:
Once you successfully set your long term blogging goals, you can then make a plan to achieve those goals.
Creating a plan is actually easy when you have your goals in front of you.
I just break down my long term goals in yearly basis, then monthly basis.
Everyday I work to achieve my monthly target.
So, having long term blogging goals is essential to create a roadmap to your blogging success.
It Helps To Track Progress:
Once you have a road-map, it’ll be easy for you to track your progress.
Suppose, you want to be a self-published author. So, you set a deadline and plan to complete the book publishing in one year.
Your planning can be like this.
- Learning book writing and publishing process – 1 month.
- Researching on the book topic – 1 month.
- Gathering information and data for writing the book – 1 month.
- Writing the book. – 4 month.
- Editing and formatting the book – 1 month.
- Designing a book cover and others –1 month.
- Planning to launch the book – 1 month.
- Publish and promote the book – 2 months.
You can then plan your monthly target in daily basis.
Don’t you think when you have a plan like this, it’ll be easy for you to track your day to day progress?
So, setting long term blogging goal is important to track your progress.
It Helps To Work On Important Things Rather Than Urgent:
There is a difference between important and urgent.
For example, you were solving a math problem which needs deep thinking. At that moment, one friend called you.
What will you do?
I know, you’ll take the phone call.
But while you take the phone call, you’ll lose your thinking process of math solving.
Here taking the phone call is urgent and solving the math problem is important but not urgent.
Now imagine, if you don’t take the call what will happen.
He just called you to go out for gossiping. That isn’t important.
In your blogging journey, you’ll find many things like this which isn’t important but seems urgent.
Setting long term blogging goals will help you to work on important, not on urgent things.
Most of the beginner bloggers fail to build a successful blog not that they don’t have the ability. It’s because they lose motivation due to not getting any return.
But setting long term blogging goals helps you gain motivation.
Because when you work on something every day, you can track your progress after each day. That means you’re achieving something every day.
Although you’re not getting instant benefits, you’re achieving your big goals. That in turns will give you benefits in the long run.
When I see I’m getting closer to my goals day by day, I feel motivated. I feel inspired.
So setting long term blogging goals is important for motivating yourself to build a successful blog in the long run.
