When it comes to monetizing a blog, there are many ways. Such as Advertising, Affiliate marketing, Selling self-product or service etc. Among them, affiliate marketing is one of the top ways to make money blogging.
It is said that if you want to be successful in affiliate marketing, you need to gain reader’s trust first. As a newbie blogger, you might have not gained your reader’s trust yet. So, shouldn’t you put your hands on affiliate marketing? If you should, how can you become an affiliate marketer as a newbie blogger?
In this post, I’ll try to answer these questions. Before that let’s know about affiliate marketing first.
What is Affiliate Marketing?
In simple words, affiliate marketing is selling someone else’s product through your marketing effort. you’ll get commissions when a successful sale happened.
I’ve talked details about the basic of affiliate marketing on the post “What is affiliate marketing and how does it work?”
There are many ways you can promote affiliate products. As a blogger, you definitely want to promote affiliate product through your blog. To successfully selling affiliate product through your blog, you need to gain reader’s trust. Otherwise, no one will buy a product from you. So, the question is, should we put our hands on affiliate marketing too early?
We should. Why?
Why Should You Become an Affiliate Marketer as a Newbie Blogger?
Of course, as a Newbie blogger, you should focus on building your blogging business, providing value to your readers and gaining their trust. If you give value to your readers by publishing quality contents consistently, you’ll gain their trust over-time. There is no doubt.
For creating valuable contents, we often need to include links to various resources and tools in our content to help our readers to solve their problem. Many of these resources and tools have their affiliate program running. You can include affiliate links for those resources and tools instead of just plain links. In this way, you’ll be more responsible as you don’t want to include less valuable resources as affiliate links in your content.
If someone takes action through your affiliate link, you’ll be able to earn some money which will make up your blogging expenses like hosting, domain etc.
But don’t expect that you put an affiliate link in your content and your readers will start taking actions. This doesn’t happen this way.
Then, why to put affiliate links in contents when no one will take actions through your affiliate links?
As a newbie blogger, you may not know much about affiliate marketing. If you start to put your hands in affiliate marketing, you will gain experience. Once you are experienced, you’ll be able to use affiliate marketing later when your blog will grow and gain reader’s trust.
I believe, there is no better way to be experienced other than practicing. And starting something is very important. If you just start something, you are a step ahead.
So, how can you start affiliate marketing as a beginner blogger?
How to Become an Affiliate Marketer as a Newbie Blogger?
I don’t know about your blogging niche. Whichever niche you are blogging on, no matter, there must be affiliate products and services in that niche. You just need to find out those affiliate products.
Start small. Like any other business, blogging business also takes time to be successful. So, don’t be hurry. Take a step, then another, then another one.
Start with the product you have used and liked. For example, I’ve used Hostgator to host my blog before. I liked their services. So, I’ve been an affiliate for their service and promoting it on this blog.
So, you must be using some products or services related to your blogging niche. Try to find the affiliate programs for the product you are using and become an affiliate for their program.
I bought all of my domain from Godaddy. But, I didn’t use their hosting service before. So, I haven’t been an affiliate for their service yet. But, I’m now using their hosting service with this blog. Once I will be satisfied, I’ll give a try to become an affiliate for their program.
So, if you want to promote any affiliate product/service on your blog, use that yourself first. Otherwise, don’t promote it. It will hurt your affiliate marketing effort and you will lose your reader’s trust.
But, if you found any affiliate product which, you already know, is good then you can become an affiliate for the product.
For example, I have been an affiliate of Bluehost hosting service. Although I didn’t use their service, I know them well. Because one of my friends is using Bluehost hosting service, he confidently recommended me to use Bluehost for hosting my blog. Then I did some research and found that it is a WordPress recommended hosting. So, I became their affiliate and promoting that on this blog.
So, as a newbie blogger, you should promote that product on your blog which you have used, loved or trust.
Once you find a product to promote on your blog, visit the product page to check if they are running an affiliate program for the product.
Check their website menu, About page or bottom of the website if there is any instruction about becoming an affiliate for their product. This page is often titled as be a partner, Be an affiliate, affiliate opportunity, etc.
Once you found this type of page, click on that and follow the instruction to sign up their affiliate program.
If you don’t find an affiliate program for the product, your next bet is “Google search”.
Type “product name + Affiliate program” in the Google search bar and hit enter. If there is an affiliate program for your desired product, Google will show you that.
You may think that becoming an affiliate marketer too early as a Newbie blogger isn’t necessary. But, there are many things to learn to be successful in affiliate marketing. If you don’t put your hands in affiliate marketing, you won’t be able to learn.
If you just start practicing from the beginning of your blogging journey, you will be an expert when your blog grows.
Keep in mind, as you are a Newbie blogger, not all affiliate program will accept you. Don’t worry if you are rejected. You can apply for their affiliate program later. So, whichever affiliate program accept you, go with that.
