Answering these question will help you to define your content strategy.
To help you answer this question, for example, I launched this blog with the purpose of creating a complete resource for them who want to start a blog and make money with it.
So, my purpose of creating content for this blog is to make it a complete resource for bloggers as well as earn money through it by showing ad, by affiliate marketing and by selling my own ebook.
I think, your concept is now pretty clear that how to define the purpose of your blog content.
Who are your target audience?

As you defined the purpose of your blog content, answering this question should be easy for you.
Suppose, I created this blog for them who want to start a blog and want to make money blogging. So, my target audiences are new bloggers who want to make money blogging.
Your target audiences may differ from me. You may want to be more specific in this stage. Such as, you may want to add age and location for your target audiences.

If you have clear concept about the above questions, you can now create a content strategy for your blog.
So, how can you create a content strategy for your blog?
How to create a content strategy for your blog?
If you follow the steps I outlined below, you can successfully create a content strategy for your blog that will engage readers.
1. Define End Goal
What do you want to create with your blog? That means, where will you take your blog after one year from now?
Suppose, I want to make this blog a complete resource for bloggers. So that, they can find everything related to make money blogging.
I know, it will take time. And it will not be possible within one year to make a complete blog of make money blogging resource. It may take five years. But, don’t worry, you don’t have to wait five years to make money. As your blog grows, you’ll be able to start making money.
2. Categorize your content
When you choose your blogging niche, you now know that how to categorize your content.
If you can successfully categorize your content, it will be easy for you to come up with many content ideas.
So, how can you categorize your Content?
To make your content categorizing process easy, I will show you, how I categorised my content for this blog.
As you know, I want to make this blog a complete resource for bloggers who want to make money blogging. So, I brainstormed the process of make money blogging. What I found, I outlined below.
If someone wants to make money blogging, he/she needs to go through the following process –
- Create a blog
- Create contents
- Getting readers, and
- Monetizing the blog
So, I categorized this blog as, How to blog, Creating Content, Getting Traffic and Make Money Blogging. But, don’t worry about the label of your categories much at this stage. You can change your category’s label later.
If I cover above four sections, that should beenough to make this blog as I want. But when I started to write blog on the above four categories, I felt, there should some categories be added.
Such as, this content doesn’t fit in the above four categories. So I added another category, that is, “blogging strategy“. And plan to add one more category for this blog, that is, “Productivity tips for blogger“.
So, before creating content, categorize your content first based on the niche you choose for your blog. It will be easy for you to create content based on the category.
Don’t forget to write down your category in a piece of paper or in a digital note.
3. Start creating content strategically
As you categorize your blog niche, now start creating 3-5 base-content on each category initially. Create those contents in such a way that your readers get a basic idea about the category. You can further elaborate those contents in your future posts.
For example, if I want to create a base content on the category “How to start a blog”, then I’ll cover the following topic in that article.
Choosing blog niche
Set up blog, etc.
I’ll initially discuss the basic things under those topics. And then, I’ll discuss those topic elaborately in my future posts.
In this way, your readers will be engaged with your blog. Because, they will know that you are taking certain steps and you are doing it in a definite way.
When your readers come to know that you are guiding them in a step by step process then they must be engaged with your blog.
